Tour Day 9
O ye'll take the high road and I'll take the low road
And I'll be in Scotland afore ye
But me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond
![]() July 30th, 2019 | ![]() This morning we say goodbye to the west coast and our lovely B&B, to head back to Edinburgh by way of Loch Lomond and Stirling Castle. A challenging game of trivia kept us occupied on the road with our Team Drambuie finishing a very respectable third place! It was our last day on the road together and we all seemed to be a bit quiet and reflective. Our time together was quickly, too quickly, coming to an end. | ![]() Loch Lomond is freshwater and the physical boundary between the Highlands and Lowlands of Scotland and as we neared the Loch we were delighted by Colin singing "On the Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond" to us. I was saddened to leave the Highlands behind and have made a promise to return. | ![]() The home of the Stuarts Kings, Sterling, is set on Castle Hill where the lowlands meet the highlands. It is awash with history and intrigue, an interesting combination of architecture that might find you lost among the rooms trying to find your way out. But do find time to visit the Stirling Heads. An intriguing collection of oak medallions made to grace the palace ceiling. | ![]() The view from the "Forth Floor", our last dinner together but what a dinner it was. The food was excellent and the company was without compare. We had come along way, laughing, learning and venturing out of our comfort zones, we even celebrated 4 birthdays together. It is hard to say goodbye. As a remembrance, Colin presented each of us with a piece of Iona greenstone and wished us good luck, good health and a lifetime of peace. Slange var. |

Tour Day 10
Slange Var!
![]() July 31st, 2019 | ![]() As we share our last breakfast together and celebrate the journey, we also share contact information and swap a few more stories. Some are going home, some traveling further on to another adventure. I am heading west to Mingary Castle in Kilchoan and Ardnamurchan Distillery. I will miss Scotland, my new tour friends, and Colin and Grant. Onward to the next adventure. | ![]() And finally I'm in Glasgow for my flight home early the next day. Not much time left, and not wanting to waste a moment of it, I catch an Uber to the Kelvingrove Museum and head to the Scottish History section. On display is James Hamilton's painting, "Massacre at Glencoe". It brings the trip to Glencoe to life, adding a depth to the story. The entire exhibit is phenomenal and touches on a lot of what we had just seen, from Crannogs to Castles. |
